SORA’s Mission

SORA, which stood for Spectral Observation for Reflectivity Analysis, had a similar mission to GLADOS. It was also looking at collecting light curves of space debris. Unlike GLADOS, SORA was a 12U, used a spectrometer, and planned to collect data from non glint events. This meant that SORA can operate year round and collect much more data on an objects makeup with it’s spectrometer than GLADOS can with its two cameras. SORA however could not see as dim of an object as GLADOS and it is also double the size. One of the toughest challenges for SORA was having a large enough light collection area for the spectrometer to work.

My contributions to SORA

My contributions to SORA were much less than those for GLADOS. I trained SORA’s first science lead and introduced him to the specialized knowledge needed to work with space optics.
