Robustify – Missing Words

Robustify

Verb

  1. To Make More Robust

You often lose performance when you choose to robustify something.

Missing Words

English is a dynamic and ever-evolving language. Unfortunately, it’s finite in size so there are concepts and ideas that even it cannot currently describe. In the missing words series, I’ll be noting words that come up in my writing that arent proper English, but should be.

How Robustify Came Up

I was writing a funding proposal and in one section, using bullet points to list the major components of my work. When using bullet points in a funding proposal it’s good practice to always start your sentences with verbs (sometimes called action words). My original bullet point was

  • Robustify X to Y using Z

Upon realizing that robustify was not a word, and there was no suitable replacement with a similar connotation, I switched to

  • Use Z to make X more robust  to Y
